Brisbane Vineyards and Wineries

Brisbane has numerous historic vineyards, wineries and exceptional breweries, in and around the city and throughout Queensland. Many of the best wines in Queensland are produced within the Stanthorpe district and wine from this region of Brisbane is highly regarded in Australia. The nearby Ballandean region and Canungra Valley are other important wine areas close by.

Wine tasting is usually widely available at local vineyards. Many wineries in Brisbane often offer courses about general wine appreciation and tasting.


Winemaking in Queensland began in the mid-19th century, when the first vineyards were planted. However, it was not until many years later, in the 1980s, that Australian wine was appreciated around the world.

The scenic Stanthorpe resort is within easy reach of Brisbane city centre, either by car or wine tour. Here you will find over 20 vineyards and breweries, allowing you to see the whole winemaking process, from grape to actual bottle. It is worth noting that some of the nearby vineyards are closed to the general public on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Guided tours provide one of the best ways to see the most popular vineyards in Brisbane, and many also have restaurants serving gourmet food, together with spectacular views of the surrounding area, picnic areas and BBQ facilities, and some even provide basic accommodation.
